This pulls Shelby even deeper into danger, where knowing someone's thoughts can not only hurt her feelings, but get her killed. Instead, she focuses on a new client, who hires Shelby to find her missing mother. What seems like a routine case turns into something more sinister and deadly than she ever imagined. Shelby Nichols isn't your average soccer mom turned private investigator. She's more on the quirky side with a little wild thrown in.
That's because a near-fatal gunshot wound to the head left her with the ability to read minds. This lands her in all kinds of trouble, and this time is no exception. Helping a reporter, Billie Jo, get the lowdown on a case is just the tip of the iceberg. When her best friend's niece goes missing, Shelby is pulled into a conspiracy that involves the police and the leader of a violent drug ring. It's been almost a year since a near-fatal gunshot wound left Shelby Nichols with the ability to read minds. In that time she's faced one problem after another. She's been shot at, framed for murder, and targeted by a serial killer, just to name a few.
Now she's trying to help her lawyer husband win a murder trial that will enable him to become a partner in his law firm. Sounds easy, right? But nothing ever goes as planned when it comes to Shelby Nichols. Just back from Paris, Shelby barely has time to get over her jet lag before she is right back in the thick of things. Uncle Joey, the local mob boss, needs her help to find out what his son is hiding from him.
Detective Harris, AKA Dimples, has an unsolved homicide on his hands, along with a missing engagement ring.
Shelby's husband, Chris, just got promoted to partner in his law firm, and she has yet to see his new office or meet his new secretary. A typical day in the life of Shelby Nichols involves cheating husbands, solving the hardest cases for the police, and working for a big time mob-boss, all because of her little secret that she can read minds. This time Shelby is under suspicion of a murder after she finds a Private Investigator she was visiting for Un NARRATOR: Wendy Tremont King I love this series, it's always fun and light-hearted even though there's always some crime or other running through it, with some really great characters.
This time Shelby is under suspicion of a murder after she finds a Private Investigator she was visiting for Uncle Joey dead in his office when she arrives to visit him. A gun is found nearby that is registered to Shelby, even though she thought it was locked in her safe at home. So that means someone has been in her house too to get the gun. So the usual chaos ensues while Shelby tries to stay out of prison and find out why she is being targeted, and who actually murdered the Private Investigator and why.
You are never bored with a Shelby Nichols story, it's always full of fun and mystery. I've listened to them all on audiobook so far, but don't want to 'read' them all at once so I always have one in back-up when I need a Shelby fix! Long may the series continue. If you haven't read any of these books I would highly recommend them, but start from the first in the series so you understand how the story has developed.
Jul 18, Tameka rated it really liked it Shelves: The entire time I kept thinking it was Kate because she is treacherous. I was getting anxious about getting to the end of the part to find out who was behind this all. Is it really about Uncle Joey or was it about Shelby. I really can't wait to see this whole thing body in Bates" face when he find out he was so wrong.
It goes to show that when you do the right thing it does make an impact although it may not show. It goes to show that Trouble will follow Shelby no matter what. Jun 12, Krystyna rated it it was amazing. Schools in but her life might be put out Wow! Holidays are over and the children are back on school - now she can relax after a gruelling summer. No such luck. A dead PI and her name in the frame. Can she sort out this mess? An amazing read and I think these are better than the Stephanie Plum books. Highly recommended. I keep headlining the same thing - Great Story Once I start reading one of the books in this series, I cannot stop until I finish the book!
The storylines are wonderful - complex, fast paced, sometimes bloody, always fascinating. This time Shelby is being set up to take the fall for a murder. And the evidence against her is ironclad. This story is a doozy! Judging Umm caught in a trap she is fighting her way out of jail. Of course Ramos is there and everyone is trying to figure out their relationship. Doo Uncle Joey is at it again. I am caught off guard though by the comedy because it liven up the storyline. I'm glad Chris is helping out more in this one. When Shelby becomes a suspect in a murder case she finds out who her friends are, and they'll stop at nothing to find the real killer before it's too late.
Brilliant narrator! Nov 25, Penny Clark rated it it was amazing.
Great new adventure for Shelby. Trouble seems to be right around the corner from her. Loved the new Adventure. Fun, keep you turning pages, and of course lots of laughs. Have enjoyed all of the books so far. This is a great series. I highly recommend. Jun 23, Julie Howard rated it really liked it. I enjoyed this book, however I know Shelby was facing a murder charge for killing a man but I thought she was a bit whiny in this book and not her normal work out the problem self.
Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the book and love the characters it was just she was having a nervous break down after an hour in a holding cell. This book sees Shelby back working for the Mob boss Uncle Joey and on her first assignment she walks in to find the man she was meant to be meeting lying dead at his desk. Lu I enjoyed this book, however I know Shelby was facing a murder charge for killing a man but I thought she was a bit whiny in this book and not her normal work out the problem self.
Luckily she knows the lead detective unfortunately it is not long before he is taken off the case and things get really serious for Shelby as her name in found on a file in the dead man office. With Dimple's side lined she turns for help from another source, a reporter that wants Shelby's help with writing a story on a death row inmate.
With help from a reporter, a Mob boss, a hitman and her lawyer husband will Shelby be able to clear her name and avoid jail time? Wendy did an excellent job narrating and I like the new voice she used to portray the reporter. Nov 20, Odette Swan rated it it was amazing.
Oh my lanta is all I can say. My heart is still racing from finishing book 5 in Shelby's adventure. Shelby gets into big trouble in this one, however she is determined to prove her innocence and will stop at nothing to make it right. Colleen knows how to reel in a reader and keep them interested and in the dark until the last page.

Jan 08, Rhonda rated it really liked it. I liked it so much that I was looking at getting another one and was happy that I already have one on my kindle. I know what I want to read next. This is a fun detective series. The suspense was good till they revealed it in the story. It also had some funny moments in the book. Good characters. I found myself even liking the mob boss and his right hand man. It had a good mix of elements in the story. Once I got into it I did not want to put the book down till I had finished it. I really like the characters. Shelby is fun, smart and has secret power that helps and hinders her.
She loves her husband Chris. She also has 2 children Has friends in low places and high. They all want to help her when it looks like she might be arrested for murder. Chris her husband is a lawyer. He does not like it that his wife has worked for a mob boss. Chris is a defense lawyer which comes in handy. Uncle Joey is a mob boss who knows Shelby's talent and uses it to help him.
He has come to like her. He figures it is because of him that Shelby has been set up. Ramos works close to Uncle Joey and really likes Shelby. Shelby finds him to be good looking and tempted by him. Ramos likes her to and is willing to help her.

She has worked with the police before with her friend Dimples she calls him. He does not think she is guilty and helps her too. The funniest part of the story was the poker game or maybe the golf game. You have to laugh at those scenes. I can see me getting the rest of Colleen's Shelby Nichols Adventure books and reading them soon.
Jun 01, Tere J rated it really liked it. I'm really a fan of these series. Again, Shelby gets into some trouble! But what I like about the author keeping it fresh is that it really is a "new story" every time. Yes, she reads mind, yes, she'll get into trouble - but it's the trouble, and the story line that are really different and unique each time. The author is not rehashing a previous trouble, or spends chapters re-writing previous books.
There may be reference to something, but it's a sentence - not paragraph, let alone chapters. Wha I'm really a fan of these series. What I didn't like, was that the reader never found out who broke into the house. Again, this author keeps it clean. I'm looking forward to continuing the series, and am glad I didn't judge the series, that it would be the same story re-hashed!!
Even the characters are 'growing', so they're not the same or even read the same as they did in past books!! Really enjoying them! Fun read! To view it, click here. Shelby finds the worst thing possible a dead P. Will she solve the crime before she's forced to do someone else's crime? This book had some crazy adventures in it. Shelby does everything she can to clear herself even so far as to play Uncle Joey's niece Shelly from Florida just to find a Judge who has it out for Uncle Joey, Shelby even meets someone else in a similar situation slated to die soon for a crime he didn't commit.
I really enjoyed meeting the various characters and seeing Shelby's adventure and how it played out. Definitely a great series I would read future books by this author!
